- Hi,
-
- The information that I have on this modem is as follows:
-
- . This modem ( Zoltrix FM-144UMCi ) has a UMC Chipset. A company called bis Technology
- may also be using this chipset.
-
- . The modem ( and chipset ) does not have Hardware Error Correction or Data Compression (
- ECC )
-
- . The ATI3 result for this modem is: VERSION 7.02a UMC UPI DATA/FAX/VOICE MODEM
-
- . There are other UMC chipsets that DO offer FULL ECC functions, and seem to work as well
- as other modem chipsets in this respect. It is important to ensure that the ATI3 result contains
- "UPI" before you panic
-
- . The Chipset appears to be a "work-alike" of the older Rockwell Protocol Interface (RPI)
- chipset RC144ATF with software only ECC. It is not a compatable product, and RPI drivers do
- not add the ECC functions, as they do not recognise this as an RPI modem
-
- . The UMC "UPI" drivers have not yet appeared. To quote from the manual, "Any fax/data
- software that you use with this modem must support UMC's UPI V.42bis in order to enable
- Error Correction and Data Compression functions."
-
- . UMC seems to be conspicious by their absence, howver after much searching I have located
- their details:
-
- United Microelectronics Corp.
- No 3, Industrial east third road science based industrial park
- Hsinchu City, Taiwan, Republic of China
- Sales Office:
- 9th Floor, no 201-26, Tunhua north road
- Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China
- Tel: +886-2-7152455
- Fax: +886-2-7166291
-
- . They have a WWW site at http://www.umc.com.tw/, however this does not seem to be working
- ( timeout ). The FTP site ftp://umc.com.tw/ does not accept anonymous FTP.
-
- . The best initialise commands I can suggest, from studing the only UMC Modem Chipset
- Manual I have been able to obtain, and the AT&V dump for this modem is:
- ATS0=0Q0V1E1&C1%D2\Q3+H0
-
- Hope this helps!
-
- Simon :-)
