  15. The information that I have on this modem is as follows:

  17.  .  This modem ( Zoltrix FM-144UMCi ) has a UMC Chipset. A company called bis Technology 
  18. may also be using this chipset.

  20.  . The modem ( and chipset ) does not have Hardware Error Correction or Data Compression ( 
  21. ECC )

  23.  . The ATI3 result for this modem is: VERSION 7.02a UMC UPI DATA/FAX/VOICE MODEM

  25.  . There are other UMC chipsets that DO offer FULL ECC functions, and seem to work as well 
  26. as other modem chipsets in this respect. It is important to ensure that the ATI3 result contains 
  27. "UPI" before you panic
  28.  
  29.  . The Chipset  appears to be a "work-alike" of the older Rockwell Protocol Interface (RPI) 
  30. chipset RC144ATF with software only ECC. It is not a compatable product, and RPI drivers do 
  31. not add the ECC functions, as they do not recognise this as an RPI modem
  32.  
  33.  . The UMC "UPI" drivers have not yet appeared. To quote from the manual, "Any fax/data 
  34. software that you use with this modem must support UMC's UPI V.42bis in order to enable 
  35. Error Correction and Data Compression functions."

  37.  . UMC seems to be conspicious by their absence, howver after much searching I have located 
  38. their details:

  50. ( timeout ). The FTP site ftp://umc.com.tw/ does not accept anonymous FTP.

  52.  . The best initialise commands I can suggest, from studing the only UMC Modem Chipset 
  53. Manual I have been able to obtain, and the AT&V dump for this modem is:
